PacSun - Hipster or Skater Store?

Hipster or Skater Store?

PacSun is a pretty cool store and for a while it was located right next to Zumiez (another skate store) at my local mall. PacSun was there first, though. Currently, PacSun has shut down operations for the moment in order to move locations. I assume they'll probably be moving to an area downstairs where there's more space and more chances that people will shop at PacSun rather than Zumiez. PacSun started off as a skate shop in California, and I'm sure it specialized in surfing attire as well. Nowadays PacSun is more about California lifestyle and offers clothes that you'd find in a prep store like American Eagle or Aeropostale. The store does stay true to the skate brands, such as DC, Diamond, Girl, and Vans, but it seems that PacSun wants to go for a more preppy, hipster look these days rather than what a typical skateboarder or surfer would wear. Their various type of clothes consist of a limited number of shoes, jeans, shorts, T-shirts, tank tops, shirts, hoodies, hats, and accessories. Your PacSun might also include a small section where they display skateboards, skateboard trunks, skateboard wheels, and helmets. I find PacSun to be more of a look-around store rather than a go-in-and-buy store because their selection is not as vast as I would expect it to be. If I want to get a fresh pair of DCs, Adidas, or Jordans, then I'm most likely going to head over to Foot Locker. If I want a fresh DC hat, I'm going to go over to Lids. As for the clothes, I probably would rather go on Amazon.com and purchase the article of clothing for 50% less than what PacSun wants for it. PacSun seems to be ranging their clothing's colors from bright and vibrant to an above average color of grey. I can just see some hipster shopping around for an O'Neill Montera Short Sleeve Woven Shirt and nut-hugging skinny Khaki jeans to accompany his hipstah glasses. PacSun use to not be about that life but I guess you'll do anything to get more customers, even though the Internet is making a killing off of everything these days. PacSun use to strictly profit off of cool-graphic tees, expressive shorts and jeans, and sweet ass hats. RIP old PacSun... you will be missed.

Yogen Fruz - A Pricey Frozen Yogurt Store

Deliciously Pricey

Yogen Fruz has only been open for a couple months at my local mall and I have gone there twice so far. The store is tucked away in a small area below the food court, which is a smart location because it does not have to compete with the madness of the food court yet happens to be the only place to get dessert within reasonable walking distance from the other food shops. The charm to Yogen Fruz is that you walk in there and grab a cup by the entrance. You then view the twelve or so different flavors you can place in your cup. You can get as much frozen yogurt as you want and it is weighed by the pound. The flavors consist of tart, watermelon, vanilla, chocolate, birthday cake, coconut, espresso, peanut butter, and other delicious choices. You also have the ability to swirl two flavors together, such as tart and watermelon. This is great if someone wants to experience as many flavors as possible at once. Yogen Fruz changes their flavors from time to time. For instance, between my first visit there and my second visit, they had switched out one flavor for Snickers. Snickers candy bars are delicious so good move Yogen Fruz. Anyways, there is always variety at Yogen Fruz and their 40+ toppings for your frozen yogurt sweetens the deal. You can top your frozen yogurt with fresh fruit, cheesecake crumblings, oreo crumblings, mini m&ms, reese's pieces, Swedish fish, gummy worms, chocolate chips, Nerds, etc. etc.  Just take all the best candies from the 90's and put them in the toppings section of Yogen Fruz. They also have sauces and cherries for your frozen yogurt but I don't roll with that. A tip I can give you about creating your frozen yogurt dessert is to layer the frozen yogurt and toppings -- don't grab the frozen yogurt, pour some toppings on there, and pay. Swirl some frozen yogurt on the bottom, grab a few toppings, go back to the frozen yogurt machine and create a new layer, add more toppings, and continue until your cup has had its limit. Once you've created the ultimate frozen yogurt party in your cup, you need to place it on a weigh machine. Here's where the smile on your face from pure bliss as if you're a little kid again, doing something fun like playing on a playground, goes to a :| face because of the price. I'm not sure what the price per pound is or how these people get the totals they do, but you'll be looking at around $7 per cup. My mother and I go to Yogen Fruz together and the last time we were there her cup of frozen yogurt cost $8.80! Geez mother... This is where I think Yogen Fruz fails -- people will be intrigued by the concept and want to check it out, but after seeing the price of their frozen yogurt I doubt they'll be back for more as often as the business would like. Now, I think that the price may be as steep as it is because the business is fairly new in the mall and it is also the winter, and most people don't like to eat ice cream or frozen yogurt in the winter since it's too dang cold out. I think that if the business is able to survive until the summer, we will see prices drop down to $5 a cup, which I think would be a fair price. The most important thing to factor is how the frozen yogurt tastes, though. I can't really be mad at the price when the frozen yogurt tastes delicious. The flavors are extravagant and express the taste that was posted on the sign. In conclusion, Yogen Fruz is worth going to maybe twice a month and on special occasions. It's really a fun and enjoyable experience that will leave your taste buds happy.
